Urine is discharged from the body through the urethra. When the opening of the urethra is obstructed — a condition known as meatal stenosis — urination becomes difficult or impossible. This leads to urine retention, which can result in serious infections, kidney damage, or even kidney failure.
In such cases, urethral stricture surgery (typically a procedure called meatotomy) is necessary. The goal of this intervention is to enlarge the external urethral opening and prevent urine retention. Delaying treatment can cause complications, including progressive scarring and long-term damage to the urinary system.
