According to Professor Tamar Safra, senior oncologist at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov):
“In most cases, men – just like women – notice lumps around the nipples or other unusual symptoms and come in for evaluation. Male breast cancer treatment in Israel follows similar protocols to those used in women.”
Approximately 50 men are diagnosed with male breast cancer in Israel each year. Though rare, this cancer accounts for about 1% of all breast cancer cases.
Diagnosis begins with a clinical examination and typically includes:
- Mammography – a non-invasive imaging test to assess breast tissue
- Ultrasound (US) of the breast area
- Biopsy – various methods for sampling breast tissue
- Cytological analysis of nipple discharge
- MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) for detailed internal imaging
These diagnostics help determine whether the condition is benign or malignant, define the tumor type, its location, and stage, and provide a basis for a precise final diagnosis of male breast tumor in Israel.
