Innovative approach to early cancer detection: the Galleri blood test

Modern medicine is making significant progress in the field of early cancer diagnosis, as it is well known that the earlier a disease is detected, the higher the chances of successful treatment. Many types of tumors, especially aggressive ones, can develop for a long time without noticeable symptoms, and standard screening methods: mammography, colonoscopy, fecal occult blood test, or Pap test, cover only a limited number of cancer types.

Against this background, the Galleri test represents an innovative breakthrough. The Galleri analysis is a next-generation screening study designed to detect more than 50 types of cancer at an early stage, including those that are traditionally difficult to identify, such as pancreatic or ovarian cancer.

The Galleri blood test is performed using a simple blood sample. The technology makes it possible to identify molecular signals that indicate the presence of an active oncological process in the body. Moreover, the test can point to the likely origin of the tumor, which speeds up further examinations and the establishment of an accurate diagnosis.

Who the Galleri test is suitable for

This test is not intended for everyone, but only for people at increased risk of cancer. These include:

  • individuals over 50 years old,
  • those who have had cancer and have been in remission for more than three years,
  • people with multiple cases of cancer in the family,
  • patients with hereditary risk factors.

Despite its potential, the Galleri test currently remains an additional tool and does not replace standard screening programs recommended by the Ministry of Health. It is still in the early stages of implementation and requires further data collection.

Test effectiveness according to research

Statistics show that out of every 200 people:

  • 198 will receive a negative result and be considered healthy,
  • one will indeed be diagnosed with cancer, and early detection may save their life,
  • one more will receive a false-positive result and be sent for additional diagnostics.

Other modern methods of cancer detection

In addition to the Galleri analysis, the following technologies are also used and actively developed worldwide:

  • Molecular diagnostics (PCR, sequencing) — allows detection of mutations characteristic of certain cancer types.
  • PET-CT and MRI — highly accurate imaging methods used to detect tumors and metastases.
  • Liquid biopsy — a blood test for circulating tumor cells and DNA, the technology on which the Galleri test is based.
  • Artificial intelligence in diagnostics — analysis of large data sets to detect anomalies invisible to the human eye.

Where to take the test

The test is available on a paid basis at Ichilov Hospital. To make an appointment or obtain detailed information, you can use the contact form on this page.
